Source: Birth Certificate of daughter Ethel May Parmelee, gives place of birth for mother, Effie, as Saybrook, age 24;
Mother died when only a year or so old. Appears that she was raised by her grandparents, John and Almira (Buell) Griswold as she was listed on the 1870 and 1880 census as living in their home.
In the 1940's she was operating the Ideal Hotel on North Main St. in Middletown, Conn. prior to that she owned and operated a Hotel in Ivoryton, Ct. Source: Personal knowledge;
