- John and Elizabeth lost everything in Schenectady through a
friend and then moved west, going first to Lake Co., Ohio. In
1846 they left for Wisconsin, a journey of several months; only
a trail led from Sheboygan, Wisconson. to Plymouth, where John
established a cheese-making business.
