Gov. Nicolls confirmed a patent to Daniel Denton, William Hallett, Robert Coe, Anthony Waters and others on 'a certain tract of land purchased for and on behalf of the Town of Jamaica.' Founded less than ten years before, this action secured the rights to the fledgling settlement's official status under English rule.
